There have been many families in the parish. The main influences in the past have been the noble families of Berkeley, Lyon, Stewart, Haliburton, Oliphant, Spens and Ruthven whose span covered hundreds of years. The book gives details of the foundation and tenure of these families and their related cadets, as well as their influences nationally and internationally.The nineteenth century families of Wood, Bell and Calder did much to guide the parish into the modern times.The book does not ignore less noble families and gives a lot of information on countless others whose influence sustained and modified the parish in time with the age.
